Avicii – Silhouettes (EDX’s Arena Club Mix) [Le7els]

Wednesday, 05 September 2012
Published in House

At first glance, this title may be a bit misleading.  How can a track be an "arena" and "club" mix?  The two venues are inherently, and call for an entirely different style of music.  An arena is all about energy, taking the crowds breath away for that one hour slot you've been granted.  Clubs are an entirely different beast.  A club DJ should be focused on developing a journey, a sonic adventure which takes hours to transverse.

That being said, EDX successfully shatters my pre-established premonitions on club mixes vs arena mixes.  This track would go off in either setting, albeit I would probably wait until later in the evening to drop this bomb at a club.  EDX adds a guttural drop that only adds to the brilliance of the original progressions, and breathes new life into an older Avicii classic.

Check out the track below, and purchase on Beatport here.

So for anyone at Ultra Music Festival, you were probably at Avicii on Saturday night when Madonna came on the stage and began her shenanigans which prompted Deadmau5 to slam her on Twitter the subsequent days. In the end they made up via Twitter and everything seems to be fine. But regardless, it was a fun thing to watch.

Now we have a couple new remixes from Avicii & Dada Life covering Madonna's popular mainstream hit "Girl Gone Wild."

I read that it only took Avicii 3 days to produce his remix. That seems kind of fast right? Well take a listen to the song and make up your own mind.

As for Dada life's remix, it's okay. I am having a really hard time getting the past the fact that Madonna is on the vocals. Maybe I need to snap out of the mindset that "all pop music is bad?" But so much of it is not good at all... hard decisions.

Let me know what you all think about these tracks! Click past the break to listen to both remixes.

Another show will go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 AM for Avicii at the Santa Monica Civic Center on Sunday, September 16th! The last 2 (Friday| Saturday) shows sold out in a matter of hours so expect this show to as well! Ticket link will open below when the tickets are up for sale!

New Music - George Monev - Avicii Levels in Reverse

Thursday, 01 March 2012
Published in New Music

Who would have thought this would have worked? Avicii's Levels.. but backwards.. and its really really good! Editted a touch by George Monev, but still, job well done.

Unknown DJ, George Monev from Austrailia might have something here. Let's see what he comes out with next! Check out sleveL iicivA after the break.

To promote Avicii's upcoming advertising partnership with Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply, he's graced us with a much more laid back mix of his hit single "Silhouettes".  The preview is narrated by Avicii himself, who gives us a bit of insight into his production style.  "I always start with the melody first, and then I try to figure out the right sound for the melody.  Then when I figure that out, I know what I want to do with the rest of the track" explains Avicii.  The powerful vocal line stays intact, yet the track takes on much deeper house qualities as opposed to that big room house Avicii has become so well known for.  Check out a preview of the track below, and expect this remix to be released this Friday 8/3.

After visiting with Laidback Luke in his hotel room before his performance at the Palladium in Hollywood (3.10.12), it was hard to miss the excitement on his face as he eagerly awaits the release of his new single feat. Wynter Gordon “Speak Up!” and the 1st Super You & Me set of his massive North American Speak Up! Tour. The super hero themed crowd was buzzing with partygoers dressed up in everything from Sailor Moon to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all ready to go absolutely bonkers as Zedd and Laidback Luke promised to bring energy and some of the hardest beats you’ll find this side of Ibiza. After 15 years of professionally producing and DJ’ing and kick starting the careers of mega DJs Afrojack and Avicii, Laidback Luke is primed to retake his place at the top of EDM with the massive wave of popularity spreading across the United States. So what’s next for the Dutch sensation? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain; Laidback Luke has the talent and the energy to put the EDM world on his back and take us all to the next level.

Interview:

ET: Hi my name is Danny, this is Loraine and of course this is Laidback Luke..Here with Electrojan. Luke is just about to go on stage at the Palladium here is Hollywood. Luke you’ve been nice enough to spend a few minutes with us and we appreciate it.

ET: I first just want to have a fan moment…Electric Daisy Carniaval 2010 was one of the best parties I have ever been to and you were a huge part of that. You and MSTRKRFT just made the night. And so just one more time I want to shake your hand and say thank you.

LBLThanks! That’s good to hear!

ET: It was the last year they had it at the Colisium and you helped bring the place down.

LBLYeah, that was one of my legendary gigs. I mean the crowd! 60,000 people in the Colisium…I have never performed in front of a crowd as big as that.

ET: What was it like?? (can you tell Im a fan haha)

LBLIt was increditble. I tried counting all the people but they kept on moving around, and its just like…You can’t really see over the whole crowd, but it was really amazing to hear the roar of the fans “AHHHHHH!!”

Interview continues after photos:

ET: Well, you have a lot of stops coming up on your North America tour, what are you most looking forward too?

LBLWell. To be honest this is the first time I am doing a bus tour ever, it the “Speak Up! Bus Tour” to celebrate the release of my new single feat. Wynter Gordon…and I actually only used to hotels and airplanes; and this is going to be very interesting sleeping on the bus because Ive never done that before, but its exciting to tap into this whole new college market.

ET: That’s great. Now, you have roots in hip hop, you started off on the turntables. With EDM’s popularity, where do you see the music industry going for genres such as hip hop and others??

LBLIts funny because I noticed now-a-days EDM is like the new hip-hop. Which is good, I like it; it’s a new crossbreed. There is a whole new market opening up for us…all of us. Where do I see it going? Well, with Skrillex winning all the Grammy’s this year I see a whole new market opening for dubstep as well.

ET: What do you feel about EDM becoming “mainstream” in America??

LBLOh its incredible. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I mean in Europe it was 10 years ago when this happened, and it went so big, but now the US caught on and it’s a whole new injection of people getting excited about dance music again. I mean, in Europe at the moment it’s a little bit like “we’ve seen it all” and over here is still so fresh and new and we are really enjoying it.

ET: So now that the wave has hit, where do you fantasize your career going??

LBLYeah so basically I’m doing really well and am very happy and thankful for it. I could use a bit more radio and MTV play for instance, so that’s where we are aiming for “Speak Up!”, we have the new video ready and we are hoping to get more mainstream play. I would like to have my own imprint on the more mainstream dance music as well…WITHOUT SELLING MY SOUL! I try and keep it real.

ET: Are there any dream artists you have? Or anyone that would you most like to collaborate with..a wish list?

LBLUhh no not really..to be honest

ET: well I’m sure there is a wish list for you…

LBLWell you know I would really like to do a track with someone like Justin Timberlake…OR PRODUCE HIS NEW ALBUM! Start singing again man, do something! Haha But maybe Daft Punk as well.

:::HIGH FIVE:::

LBLbut those are dreams…so we’ll see.

ET: Do you know what they (Daft Punk) look like??

LBLYeah! Yeah I actually met them before. They are really nice guys..really uh…really dorky and into robots, as I am as well.

ET: Nice nice…Well we’re going to get into some fan questions. These are from our readers and viewers, so just shoot from the hip.

ET: What is your favorite city to after party in??...if you’re aloud to answer that haha

LBLOh Ive had some notorious after parting back in the day and I’d say uh…Edmonton, Canada. And Ibiza as well

ET: So we read that you like to cook. So when you’re on the road whats your favorite comfort food.

LBLWell this is the thing, and it’s the reason I always cook when I get back home is because we just do room service in the hotels, I mean we have a lot of good food, but as soon as I get home I cook straight away. My favorite food is Risotto. I like the combination of the ricey stuff because I have asian, but I lok pasta as well so its like rice with the pasta flavor.

ET: Sounds like the best of both worlds…can even mix some cheese! Ain’t nothing with that! Well right on…so good… risotto.

ET: So who is your favorite Artist or DJ??

LBLMy favorite DJ is actually an LA local, which is The Gaslamp Killer. He combines both technicality with a great performance and his music is just very weird and I love that

ET: I know you have your own label, do you try and keep an ear out for anything new that’s coming up??

LBLOh absolutly, this is what Ive been doing for almost my entire career is discovering new talent and try and bring them up as professionals. Which I did for guys like Afrojack and Avicii for instance. So I founded my label to have a platform for these kids to release on. So yeah, I have a whole Luke army ready to take over for sure.

ET: some super heros in the making??

LBLOh yeah!

ET: So as an artist…to produce or to DJ. Which is more fun??

LBLWell for me I started out as a producer, I only got into DJing because I wanted to make my tracks really playable for DJ’s, I wanted to know what was going on inside their minds and what they needed for me to produce for them to be able to play. And this is still why I play the way I play is because I am manipulating sounds as if I am producing them in the studio, that’s why I mix quite differently than a lot of people out there; I just want to be in control over the sound. Yeah so I’d say producing is my main thing. And I love performing and I think creating something new is the best for me.

ET: Let me follow that up…you’ve been know for your crazy transitions, where you go from 180bpm to 200 on the next track…and a lot of people just cant hang with that, but you seem to do it pretty seamlessly. Now is that something just comes from your gut…or is that something you’ve planned out or figured out and no one else has..

LBLEvery set I play is pure improvisation..

ET: REALLY?!

LBLYeah!

ET: Niice!!

LBLSo if I decide on the second track I want to do drum n bass…I just…do it. I mean I’ve been a professional DJ for about 15 years now, so I have the experience to go in those ways. Plus I’ve been practicing a lot as well. In my beginning years I tried to mix genres and miz as many songs in as I could in 1 hour. And so basically what I do now is the result of that

ET: Well that’s awesome…because it takes amazing skills to do what you do.
ET: Now you said you’ve been a professional DJ for 15 years..when you first got started, who did you learn? Did you just pick up the tools and start playing with them or did you have a mentor??

LBLI learned it myself by listening to a lot of different people, and what I would do for my first 5 years of practicing is just record a set every night and play it back every morning and then record another set and try to improve the differences. And I would have, like in my bedroom studio I would change the speaker set ups as well so that could learn to mix with different acoustics; change up mixers, change up genres…yeah…basically everything

ET: You were a graffiti artist in the past, I am an artist as well, is there any other kind of art you do as well??

LBLBasically drawing is my first talent in life, and I feel as though I can still draw, its no problem. But I see my music as my graffiti now-a-days. I don’t have the time to that anymore, but the love is still there obviously.

ET: So to finish everything up…You just said you do everything on the fly and that it comes from the heart…Do you have anything special in store for the kids waiting for you over at the Palladium for your Super You & Me show??

LBLhaha See this is the thing…I never know. For instance, I only know the track I will start with so I only know the first minute I go on…after that it changes by the second. I have no clue  But what I will do is bring the energy, bring the super hero vibe and we’ll just do it.

Ohhhh sometimes I get a good feeling. Zedd & Dillon Francis decide to have a little fun and create a spoof video about Avicii's Levels. It is only 45 seconds, so might as well check it out right? I mean what else would you be doing? Listening to the actual Levels song for the 1000th time? I think not.
